Rather put out

Posted in General on September 1, 2007 by fantasywriter

For various reasons I feel rather put out, and thus won’t be doing any more planning or writing until I can get over it. No, I am not suffering from writer’s block.

I’m trying to track down this thought thats stopping the flow of my writing ideas amongst other ideas. Then, once I find it, I intend to blow it up with a rocket launcher! Thanks to Ben from Seventh-Element for that awesome idea! 🙂

Hey diddle-diddle

Hi guys!

I finally got a huge 300 page notebook in which I can finally begin sketching out accounts and history of my land. So I will be balancing the planning (and eventually the writing) of my trilogy with the writing of the accounts of the world before the time of the trilogy. I can’t wait to have a huge mythology like Tolkien did!

A Personal Triumph

Posted in Life on August 30, 2007 by fantasywriter

Ho Hum, and a merry, merry dol, My Hearties!

Those were the words that I sang today as I walked to the car from school. Why did I sing those words? Because I’d succeeded in a personal triumph which has absolutely nothing to do with writing. Although, I’ll be connecting writing to this incident throughout this post.

Let me begin by asking this: What things really make you happy? What makes you sing nonsense for an hour or more? What makes you skip along and say hello to every person in your school?

For me, that would be succeeding in getting a girlfriend – and of course completing the first draft of volume 1 in my trilogy – but that tale is for another day. And today I did succeed in getting a girl”friend”. I put special emphasis on the word friend because for now she is my “friend”. This girl is the girl that I like. However, for various strategic reasons, I’m taking it in steps, and today I succeeded in overcoming the second last obstacle in my plan.

This will strengthen my writing. For with this happy moment I will be able to put in songs in the trilogy that come from my heart. Plus it will give me passion for the romance part of my tale.

I am quite contented at the moment.

May your souls stay pure

Why is evil easier to write about than good?

Posted in Fantasy Writing on August 29, 2007 by fantasywriter

Why is evil easier to write about than good?

Those were the words that I was thinking as I was planning out Volume 1 of the trilogy just today. As I was planning an epic duel between two wise wizards (thats the first bit of information on my trilogy), I was wondering why it is so much easier to write about evil and battles between good and evil. This is a question that I have heard brought up several times over, and it is not until now that I have really been paying attention to it. I will try and find a good theory on this question sometime, but my own opinions I will state here.

I believe that it is easier to write about evil because it is exciting, thrilling, and overall more adventurous, and you never get tired of it because usually evil is out there for action, and not sitting around the fire singing a merry song. Also, in most books – my trilogy included, we don’t have many chapters set aside which is seen through the enemy’s sight.

So, as you lay in bed at night, maybe you should try and come up with your own ideas on why evil is easier to write about than good.

A small progress update…

Posted in Fantasy Writing on August 29, 2007 by fantasywriter

To keep to my promises, I will give you a small progress update on the planning of my trilogy. I now have a huge 300 page writing book, which is divided into three categories. This is just perfect, because I will be able to do the planning of the trilogy in one section, character profiles and whatnot in another section, and in the third I can use for notes and for things to do with my invented languages (which I have not started yet). Anyway, I wasn’t happy with my last plot outline, so i shoved it in a drawer and keeping for reference, but now I have made good progress with the plot summary of Volume 1. After I have finished the plot summaries, I will endeavor to break it down in chapters. (Thanks to the invaluable advice of my mother who used to be a high school English teacher!

Keep checking back for further updates!

On another note, I have changed the layout to take on a darker theme. Hope you like it.

May your souls stay pure.

Many Greetings!

Hi There!

This is my new blog that I only recently completed for my own personal use. It’s mainly going to be used to talk about me, and details, news, and updates on progress with my epic trilogy.

But first, I had better introduce myself – my name is Fredric Gallney, and I am a 15 year old writing enthusiast. To support that statement, as you already know, I am working on a fantasy trilogy but also (I hope) eventually it will expand beyond a trilogy to a whole legend in itself – possibly the next complete mythology after the great Lord of the Rings and Middle-Earth legends, which pretty much specify all the events of the world, all the various family trees and much, much more. This is the sort of thing I am hoping to achieve – as my very own personal challenge.

As for information on my trilogy, I will post a progress update sometime in the next few weeks. I will try to update my blog every couple of days (sometimes everyday) but my life is rather busy so i may not be able to. Oh, each month I will be posting a long newsletter with gives sufficiently more details about things than just mere blog posts. Even if they are rather long.

I suppose I should talk about my other interests besides writing: I am a very fond reader. I can honestly say that I hear people don’t read much – one of my friends falls into that group – and I wonder how they can cope! I mean reading and writing takes you to a whole new world – a place to escape from the real world…

By the way, occasionally I will post a book review of an exceptionally good book or series that I have read. They’ll all be fantasy of course.

Besides reading, I am very interested in Computers, and will probably do Computer Science in University. I love Tennis, nearly all my friends also play it. I used to do Karate and achieved a black belt. Also, I like to hike and I have a beautiful backyard full of forest which I love to go in. It provides me with new ideas for my trilogy. And the local mountain to boot has really got stunning views and is inspiring.

So, until next time…

May your soul stay pure
