NEW! The Plan…

Posted in Fantasy Writing on November 6, 2007 by fantasywriter

Previously on Fantasy Writer

I announced a general plan for when I was due to complete the planning of the then trilogy, which was to be December 2007. I also said that Janurary 2008 would be when the writing of Book I would commence.

Then…

I decided that that the series would be a trilogy no more, but a huge story in seven volumes.

Now…

Because of the added volumes that will need to be planned througly, the plan has now changed. It is not set in concrete and may change over the course of time, depending on how events turn out. Read on to view the plan…

End of planning – March 2008

Writing of Volume I commences – April 2008

—————————–

In other news, I got the PREVIOUSLY, THEN, NOW keywords that I used above from the Television show – Supernatural. It’s by far my favorite show. 🙂

More updates are on the way, stay tuned.

May your soul stay pure.

I’m Back!

Posted in General on November 3, 2007 by fantasywriter

Hi everyone.

I’m finally back, after whats been weeks since my last post here. You’ve probably been wondering where I have been, and why there are no longer any updates on the planning of my seven books in my as of yet unnamed series. Although, I have decided on what I want to call them.

Partly, the reason why I haven’t posted for such a long time, is because I haven’t made a lot of progress in terms of planning. There are several reasons for this:

1) School has been constantly piling me with homework, study, and assignments. Because of this, I had decided to wait another month before seriously starting to plan. Because, then I am on a two-month holiday, and I will be able to do whatever I want to.

2) My studies with Information Technology have been dragging away my free time. Although, I have begun to change that.

So, what am I doing right now (besides writing out this post)? I’m sitting in my room and working on the map of my land, as well as starting to work out one of my languages that will appear in the books. Yes, I decided that I couldn’t wait until the holidays to begin seriously planning.

In other news, I got stung by a bee today. Now that may not sound “big”, but I’ve never been stung by one before, so it was a first-hand experiece. The pain lasted for a few minutes before it slowly ebbed away. Thank goodness I didn’t have an allergic reaction. That’s the last thing I need!

In the world of fantasy, if you’re an avid reader of the Inheritance Trilogy, you may be delighted to find out that Christopher Paolini (the author) has decided to add a fourth book to his series. It’s now a quartet. And no, I don’t mean a quartet like you have in music if anyone was wondering. I got the name from the Earthsea Quartet. Paolini said that Book III was larger than he’d originally thought, and to be fair to his characters, and solve all the plot points and loose threads, he had to divide what was once the last volume into two full-length books. Also, a release date was released for volume 3: 23 September 2008. That’s nearly a whole year away! I expect that paolini is already on the fourth book, and possibly nearly finished it, since he made that announcement.

Also, I’m pretty sure The Hobbit will be made into a movie starting next year. I think New Line Cinema and Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Films) and the best director ever to hit earth, have got themselves an agreement.

Anyway, I promise to send more frequent updates about the progress of my series.

Stay tuned

Fred

An Update at Last…

Posted in General on October 14, 2007 by fantasywriter

Well, finally, I have found the time to give an update on things. If you’ve been wondering why there hasn’t been an update on anything for such a long time, it’s because I’ve been really busy as of late. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been trying to balance school, computer studies, writing (or rather planning), reading, and spending a bit of time with some friends. Sounds like a fairly easy to moderate task, but in fact is is hard, I’m telling you.

School has giving me a hard drive failure. In other words, my brain has crashed because of the amounts of study, homework, and assignments we’ve been receiving. Especially over the last week. From the period of Monday to Wednesday, and some parts of Thursday, I had hardly any free time. Pretty darn hard I tell you, and most likely it will continue next week, and probably for the next seven or so weeks until the end of the year, when I get a two month holiday. How good will that be? Rest assured, in that time, I should make a good start on the manuscript of Volume 1 of my series. Or at least, I’ll finish planning the series in that time.

Computer Studies has been capturing my interest a lot lately, for the past few months. Another ball to juggle and set into place in my time schedule. Currently, I’m learning the C programming language, so we’ll see where I go from there. You can read about that and my other endeavors with computers at Computer Techie, which, as i explained in my last post on this blog, is my journal specifically for my computer studies. So, that has also been fun.

Now for the writing update – or rather, planning update. Since my last major post which was sometime last month, I haven’t made a lot more progress. For that, you can blame school, reading and computer studies. 😛 What I have acclomplished, though, is creating a new map of my land. It’s pretty much the same as my original, but with a few details changed here and there. I haven’t completed it yet. As for the actual planning of the seven books, it’s sort of ground to a halt for the moment. I’m hoping to get back to it within a few weeks, but I’m a bit stuck as to what I really need to do. You see, I can either do character profiles before continuing the actual plotting, or, i can just do them afterwards. I’m not sure yet, I’ll need to ponder.

I’ve been doing some quality reading lately, and thats part of the reason why I haven’t had any writing time. I’m three-quarters of the way through The Divine Tailsman which is Book II of the Legend of Asaheil Trilogy by Eldon Thompson.

Hang in there…

Newsletter: From the desk of the Fantasy Writer – September 20 2007

Posted in Newsletter on September 20, 2007 by fantasywriter

Greetings Friends!

Much has happened since my last newsletter which was written before this blog was created, and thus is not archived here. I’ll start off with my normal life – which is sufficiently different to my writing life. The last few weeks have been pretty full on with tonnes of study for exams and assignments to be finished. I hate doing assignments, they seem to me to be a waste of time; an evil plan hatched by the teachers to destroy people’s souls and leave them but a gray shadow of their former self. If that was true, I certainly wouldn’t be attending school.

Anyway, all my exams are over, I had my last one on Wednesday 19 September. Well, technically I had two, but I count them as one. Now my two week break looms ever nearer, starting the day after tomorrow. It would be all well and good and allow me to pursue my interests, but for two sneaky assignments that have crept stealthily upon me. Anyway, besides that, I have a week of tennis training, will be getting together with some friends, and working on the notes and plan for my books. (Notice I said “books” and not “trilogy”? There’s a reason for that.

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine broke an art room window. He denies that he ever did so, but all the evidence pointed to him. And those that were with him including me were interviewed by the secondary principal. To cut a long story short, my friend now has the bill for the window. At least I think he does, but you never know. I suspect that the staff have already forgotten about it.

Now onto the topic that I’m sure most of you have been waiting for – what is happening to me on the writing front? Well, first off I’ll say that things are expanding themselves better than I expected, yet I have fallen behind on where I should be. In my last newsletter (I think), I stated that the plan of Volume I in the trilogy was going well. Now Volume I will have to be redone but with six other volumes to follow it. Yes, thats right, this will now be a seven-book story, which is really only one book split into seven volumes. I’m still writing down notes and forming my world, so there’ll be no real planning of the series in an actual outline for probably a few months. But I’m having fun with the notes, in huge notebooks.  Sorry, I still can’t reveal much information on what the story is about. Why? Because its not set in concrete yet.

I’ve been reading a lot lately, and have a number of books planned for the holidays. Some of these will be the Wheel of Time series by the late Robert Jordan. Also, Eldon Thompson’s Legend of Asahiel trilogy, of which volumes I and II are currently out. The book I’m reading at the moment, or rather rereading is The Silmarillion which I haven’t read for some years. When I have time, I’ll do some book reviews, but I just haven’t had any free space to do one, since it takes a lot of time and effort. Probably you’ll see one during the next two weeks on the blog.

Until next time…

May your souls stay pure

RIP: Robert Jordan (October 17, 1948 – September 16, 2007)

Posted in General on September 17, 2007 by fantasywriter

At 2.45 PM on September 16 2007, the author of the Wheel of Time series; James Oliver Rigney (Known as Robert Jordan in the writing world), passed away. For years he had been battling a rare blood disease, and had been on treatment. This is a most grievous wound for his family and friends and our wishes and prayers lie with them.

Only a few days ago, I really found out about Robert Jordan, and his amazing series; Wheel of Time. I plan to read this high fantasy sometime in the very near future. Book 12 – the final volume in Wheel of Time, remains uncompleted, but whether someone else will finish it off for Robert is remained to be seen.

A little input

Posted in Fantasy Writing on September 15, 2007 by fantasywriter

Hi Guys

Sorry for the lack of updates fo such a long time. The reason for this is that my internet has gone bust and won’t be repaired until Monday. I have a very small time on this computer from which this post is being written on, and thus can’t give a huge update on my progress. Never fear! As soon as I have my internet back, I will write the September edition of the newsletter which will have what I hope to be a sufficient update.

A small piece of information

Posted in Fantasy Writing on September 6, 2007 by fantasywriter

I have decided to announce a small piece of information regarding the trilogy to you all. As you all probably know, I am still in the planning stage of my fantasy trilogy. Although do not fear! I am making excellent progress and I need to think to make sure I get things right if you take my meaning. Anyway, here’s the news regarding the trilogy:

End of planningDecember 2007

Writing of Volume I commences January 2008

Currently those dates are only rough and I may be ahead or behind the deadline I have set for myself. Although four months should give me plenty of planning time to make sure I have everything set and ready to go. I estimate it will probably take me a year to write the first draft or maybe two years, then at least another year of revising and editing before I turn it into my parents and then together we’ll probably spend at least another year doing yet more revision and edits on the manuscript, and then from there who knows what will happen…

Update 5/9/07

Posted in General on September 5, 2007 by fantasywriter

Hi Folks

A lot has happened in the last few days. You could nearly call it “hectic”. I’ve been (as the saying goes) Out of the Frying-Pan into the Fire but luckily I have managed to get out of the Fire if you get my meaning.

Just to let you know, the September edition of my newsletter which will be the first newsletter posted on this blog, will be up in the next few days. However, if there is a delay, it will mean that I am rather busy. This month’s edition of the newsletter will contain a small synopsis of why I have been out of the Frying Pan and into the Fire, as well as a firmer foothold update on my trilogy. For the moment I’ll say that it is going rather well, and I am happy with the current outcome.

Stay tuned!

Virtually Stuck

Posted in Fantasy Writing on September 1, 2007 by fantasywriter

I’m virtually stuck. I really have no idea how to begin my mythology. I think I’m going to have to take a seriously large amount of thinking time. And the same with my planning. I do not have the heart to do anymore today. I think I’ll really have to go and read. I really need to find what is stopping me and then blow it up with a dratted rocket launcher!
